Stacey Aaronson

Creative Collaborations

Experience

A self-confessed grammar nerd and lover of language and words, Stacey is an independent editor who offers thoughtful substantive editing (for non-fiction only), and copyediting and proofreading services (for fiction and non-fiction). After spending fifteen years writing and editing newsletters, literary brochures, articles, and business correspondence as side jobs, she launched Creative Collaborations in June 2011, her dream-come-true business focused on professional editing, cover and interior book design, website and graphic design, and facilitation of the self-publishing process. Vision, dedication, and honesty are the core of her business, and she adores working one on one with authors to bring their labors of love to fruition!

Stacey’s services are available a la carte; however, she can also provide an all-inclusive publishing experience, acting as editor, book designer, promotional materials creator, website designer, and partner and guide through the self-publishing process. Note: handholding and cheerleading are always happily included!

Services/Rates

Stacey offers developmental editing of non-fiction books at $60 per hour. She focuses on presentation of material, intended audience/appropriate tone, book’s overall structure, fixing awkward writing, and improving clarity and flow. Portions of the manuscript may be restructured during this process, and copyediting is included.

She also offers copyediting alone at the rate of $40 per hour, and proofreading at $2 per page (250 words). This includes multiple passes through the manuscript with a focus on individual elements to ensure an impeccable result!

Stacey happily extends complimentary phone consultations to prospective clients and welcomes discussion of book projects with no obligation of professional partnership.

Testimonials

If you seek perfection in your writing product, Stacey is for you. She is an editor and designer extraordinaire who will make your writing not only grammatically flawless but also visually appealing. Moreover, she brings saintly patience to the countless rounds of changes that excellent writing demands and unflagging cheer to every interaction. She is an absolute delight to work with. The only problem is that after having worked with Stacey, my expectations are so high that any other service provider I hire pales in comparison.

Nancy Adams

Nancy Adams Editing

EXPERIENCE

Encouraged by critique partners in her online writers’ group, Nancy began freelance editing two years ago. A writer of mysteries and suspense, Nancy belongs to Mystery Writers of America and Sisters in Crime. She has worked for over twenty years as a professional cataloging librarian, an experience which has given her a keen eye for persnickety details, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania.

She is most interested in fiction projects, but will work with writers of non-fiction as well, depending on the subject area and excluding technical works. She has edited mysteries, romance, self-help, and theology.

SERVICES/FEES

Nancy’s specialty is working with small-scale details. She offers proofreading/light copyediting for $1.25-$1.50 per page ( 250 words) and detailed line editing for $1.50-$2.50 per page.

More recently, Nancy has begun working in web design, using templates from WordPress.com. If you’ve ever wanted someone to design your website or blog, but felt that it was too expensive, you’re in luck. Because she is still learning the ropes, Nancy is currently charging only $25 to set up a website or blog. She gets the experience; you get a good deal.

TESTIMONIALS

“Nancy Adams is the Queen of Grammar in my book. She cleaned up my manuscript and made it into a professional-looking document that I could use to go forth and conquer the world.”Tess Collins, Author of HELEN OF TROY

Brenda Errichiello

B.E.E. Editing

EXPERIENCE

Brenda’s Eclectic Editing (BEE) is now in its second year, but Brenda has been editing (and getting paid for it!) since 2004. She has experience editing science fiction, fantasy, young adult fiction, mysteries, light horror and everything in between. She also has experience editing non-fiction (mostly political and women’s studies, although she’s edited dissertations and other academic writing in the past, as well).

SERVICES/RATES

Brenda offers several different levels of editing for finished manuscripts and is also available to consult with authors who would like verbal feedback on their writing or developmental support and guidance while drafting.

Her editing packages include: (1) developmental editing, the deepest level of editing, focused on story and audience appeal and ideal for authors looking to ensure their story has a strong foundation; (2) line editing, focused on the language of the text and ideal for authors with a well-developed story who are looking to improve the language in their manuscript; (3) proofreading, a superficial edit focused on punctuation and formatting, designed for manuscripts that are virtually ready for publication, and (4) the critique, an in-depth, multi-page review designed to highlight strengths and troubleshoot weaknesses in the book as a whole–and an affordable introductory package at $119 (for most manuscripts).

Authors looking to address each aspect of their book may opt for the comprehensive package–a combination of all three levels of editing plus a critique at a deep discount. More information about Brenda’s services and pricing can be found on her website: www.eclecticeditor.com.

TESTIMONIAL

“When I set out to write Battlesongs of Hope, I did it with the intention of publishing the absolute best book I could write. When I handed BSOH over to Brenda, it was by far the highest quality thing I had ever produced; I had spent almost as much effort writing it as I spent getting my Bachelor’s Degree in English. And Brenda made it better. Not a little better, but a lot better. More importantly, the feedback she delivered forced me to grow as a writer, and enabled me to see flaws in my story that I never would have otherwise considered. Brenda’s feedback was at least as useful as a college-level writing seminar in making me a better writer. I’d recommend Brenda’s Eclectic Editing to anyone who wants to take their writing to the next level. It’s hard work, but if you’re willing to put in the time, she can make a decent book good, and a good book great.”  –Evan Couzens, author of Battlesongs of Hope

Arlene Prunkl

PenUltimate Editorial Services

EXPERIENCE

Arlene has ten years of editing experience and has edited about 120 books, along with magazines, theses, and business reports. For more information about Arlene’s credentials, please visit her website. Arlene has a wide experience in virtually all genres, both fiction and non-fiction. She doesn’t work on technical materials or manuscripts involving a lot of medical or legal terminology.

SERVICES/RATES

PenUltimate Editorial Services provides substantive, structural, stylistic, copy (line) editing, and proofreading as well as manuscript evaluations. Arlene’s rate is $45 per hour, estimates are based on the quantity of words (word count) and the quality of the writing.

TESTIMONIAL

“I just finished reading through some of the manuscript after I had read the notes. I just had to drop you a note to say, ‘Wow!’ I am shocked by how well it reads. It is better than I even imagined it would be. I have not ventured past the first chapter. I am reading each comment and looking at the changes; use of words, sentence order and so forth. If this ends up published, it will be largely because of your work. There is a reason you are considered one of the best editors in Canada. You have earned every dime your service costs and more than that. It is like seeing a dream house built. Does every author feel like this or am I the only one? I have written many, many stories. None of them were any good. I wrote this book and knew I needed real help with it. I didn’t know what I didn’t know, but you’ve shown me there was a lot. Thank you!” —Mike Haines Author, Cover of Darkness

Jodie Renner

https://www.jodierennerediting.com

EXPERIENCE

Jodie Renner is a freelance fiction manuscript editor, specializing in thrillers, romantic suspense, mysteries, and other crime fiction, as well as YA and historical fiction. She has been editing for six years, holds a master’s degree in literature, was an English teacher for 26 years, and has been called a “precise grammar queen.” More important, she’s always been a voracious reader of fiction, and will help you bring your story to life by suggesting ways to increase the intrigue and tension, ramp up your plot, deepen your characters, relax stilted dialogue, and more. Jodie has published two Kindle e-books in her series, An Editor’s Guide to Writing Powerful FictionWriting and Killer Thriller, and Style that Sizzles & Pacing for Power, and is in the process of publishing more craft of fiction books in the series.

SERVICES/RATES

Jodie offers a full range of editorial services, from content editing and “big-picture” advice through line editing/copyediting, down to final proofreading. Her services also include manuscript critiques and individual consultations. Her rates vary from about $0.008 per word ($2.00 per page) to about $0.022 per word ($5.50 per page), depending on the amount of editing needed.

Diana Schramer

Write Way Copyediting

EXPERIENCE

Diana has 16 years of experience and has been a full-time freelance editor for two years. She has worked within a broad range of genres including creative nonfiction; fiction; and business (banking, finance, real estate).

SERVICES/RATES

Erin Ferretti Slattery

https://efslattery.com

EXPERIENCE

Erin’s been editing professionally for about 6 years. For the last three years, she’s been freelance editing; prior to that, she worked for a small publishing startup in New York, and, before that, she was the managing editor for English titles at an international publishing house in the Czech Republic. She developed many of her developmental and substantive editing skills as a Composition instructor and writing-center tutor while completing her M.A. in English at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2004.

Her background is primarily in editing nonfiction, but as a voracious reader (and occasional writer) of mysteries, she’s hoping to branch out to that genre eventually.

SERVICES/RATES

Erin provides a variety of copyediting services including developmental, substantive, copy, and line (she does proofreading as well, but is reluctant to call that editing! Still, writers need it!). Developmental and substantive editing services are about $80/hour, typically Erin will ask for a sample and provide a free response so the author has a sense of her approach. Copy and line editing are about $70/hour. In both cases, Erin is happy to work out a project rate (determined by word count) if the author prefers that.

TESTIMONIAL

“When turning a book over to an editor, an author generally experiences great anxiety. As an author, all that I can ask for is for the people at my publisher to care about my project as much as I do. Erin is the sort of person that you want on your editing team. Erin’s contribution to my book was essential to its publishing. She challenged me when I needed to be challenged, completed thoughts that were left dangling, and generally made sure that my book was presentable to anyone that wished to read it. I was emotionally tied to my book, but Erin was committed on a different level than that. Her personal pride and professionalism led to countless hours of editing on a very tight deadline. I would hire her again in a second.” – Peter Dunn 60 Days to Change

Gary Smailes

BubbleCow

EXPERIENCE

BubbleCow has been around since 2007. However, all of their editors have experience beyond the start of the company. Editing tends to be a lifelong obsession! BubbleCow has a team of editors and therefore has experience with all key genres. Gary’s personal expertise is in military history! The only genres BubbleCow does not edit are poetry, short stories and extremely technical books.

SERVICES/RATES

BubbleCow offers proofreading, structural editing and, what they call, the self-publishing package. This is proofing, editing and eBook conversion all in one place. They are always testing and trying new services for writers. The eBook conversion has proved popular. They are in the process of producing a training system for writers looking to learn to market their books online. Pricing for BubbleCow’s services are available on their website, but as an example, structural editing is £7 per 10000 words.

TESTIMONIAL

“The most recent author, who we intend to showcase, is Mark Sennen. We worked with him on his book Touch. It is now selling thousands of copies a month, making him a bestseller. We are in the process of picking his brain in regards to tips and tricks we can pass onto our writers.”

Christina Vasilevski

https://christinavasilevski.com/

EXPERIENCE

Christina has two years of editing experience. She currently works as a proofreader for an online content company, and has received training in substantive editing, copy editing and proofreading from the book publishing program offered by Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada. She completed the program in April 2011.

Just recently, Christina began editing fiction, as most of her experience comes from in-class exercises. However, she is most interested in working on speculative fiction: fantasy and sci-fi.

SERVICES/RATES

Christina focuses on providing manuscript evaluations and substantive editing, i.e. looking at the structure and pacing of a story. Her rates are $40 (Canadian) per hour plus taxes (13% when applicable).

INDIE INTEREST

“I feel that I would work well with an independent author because I love the possibilities of the speculative fiction genre, and I try constantly to refine my understanding of the craft through attending courses, reading books on the craft, and listening to respected podcasts on narrative craft. As a blogger, I write book reviews, and I feel that these efforts to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each book I read are essential training for editing manuscripts.”

Kit Foster

Kit Foster Design

EXPERIENCE

Kit is still a relative seedling in the design world, and as such he tries to keep his rates low until he has ‘earned his stripes’. He has only been designing book covers professionally for a year – but in that short time he has designed the covers for over fifty published works of fiction and non-fiction. His clients range from the lone self-publishing author to one of the biggest publishing companies in the world, and both are treated with the same care and attention. Kit has experience across a wide range of genres, including: Crime, mystery, supernatural / vampire, horror, science-fiction, young-adult, thriller, romance, historical, chick-lit, autobiography, fantasy, short-story collections, business and personal development.

SERVICES/RATES

Kit’s services include Book covers (eBook, paperback and hardcover), Logo design, Website banner/advert design, and poster design. All of his rates are charged at a flat fee, and the work will continue until the author is completely satisfied with the result. This is all included in the price – there will be no additional fees for any additional tweaks or changes to your cover – the work will continue until the client is 100% percent satisfied! Rates range from £50 to £150 depending on the project, details are available on Kit’s website.

 TESTIMONIAL

“I gave him a jumble of words: my descriptions of characters, theme, concept, and genre, as well as some excerpts from the works. He took all those words and somehow boiled them down to key images that he then used to create visually striking cover images for my anthology and novella. I remember opening up the files and feeling this sense of wonder–there’s nothing quite like seeing a fabulous work of cover art and knowing, not only that this is for your book, but that it fits the story you have told so very well. His ability to extract the right image and translate that into a gorgeous cover is invaluable. It has really been a pleasure to work with Kit. There were some minor changes that I requested, and he was fabulous about getting them implemented and sending me the revisions in a timely fashion. From the initial contact through to completion, he has been consummately professional, easy to work with and prompt in his replies and follow ups. But, as important as that is, Kit also has the skills and the eye of an artist and a designer. That’s why you should ask him to design your cover.” -Kathryn Anthony, Author of Persephone’s Library and other short stories.
